if you want to send him a card, but just can't afford to do so, i will do it for you. leave your message here (either typed out, or a scan of a handwritten one if you want it to be more personal) and i will paste it into one of my large collection of random birthday cards and mail it for you. Fair warning, some of the cards are dumb, and i'll probably be using stamps left over from my sister's wedding invitations.

the comments here are screened for privacy.

if you leave your own address, i will put it in the return address area so it doesn't just look like a huge amount coming from me. no problem if you're not comfortable with that, but please at least sign with a real name, not a handle (doesn't have to be yours) because of his age. my grandmother couldn't even wrap her mind around laptop computers. if he's in the same technological boat, internet handles might go over his head.

Finally getting around to mailing these. Yay for probably belated holiday greetings?

If your address has changed since I last asked for it, or if I don’t have it at all, but you would like a card anyway, please resend address here. I will screen comments.
herophelia: (Default)
1. leave address
2. get letters
2a. send letters (optional)
3. ???????
4. PROFIT!

(there really isn't any profit. you might even lose money, cause you will have to buy stamps. but it might still be worth it!)

all comments are screened, so no one will see your address but me. if you want to write me letters, too, just ask for my address and i will leave it for you in a reply.

It's that time of year again. Pumpkin spice is giving way to peppermint, and parts of the country very far away from me are all snowy and delicious.

If you want a card and a little present, leave your name and address below. I've even got a form for it. That's how much I love you all. International friends are welcome to leave addresses, too, though I probably won't mail edible things to other countries. All comments are screened.

The presents aren't big things, so don't get all excited, but I think it's always so nice to get something to unwrap. If you've got children or pets who would like a little present, too, just let me know. All kids (furry ones, too) should have the joy of getting mail.

There are options for gifts, too:
tea lovers
coffee lovers
cocoa lovers
candy lovers
ornaments/decoration
writer
artist
or a fandom option

IF YOU WOULD LIKE MY ADDRESS JUST LET ME KNOW I'LL HAPPILY GIVE IT TO YOU! I have no issue at all with people i know having it, I just don't want to put it up on my plurk since my timeline isn't private.

I'm going to just do these as a list, cause I watched a ton of them this past week.

whole list
herophelia: (hello my name is inigo montoya)
Dorian Grey - I really love Colin Firth. Even when he's being a creepy sumbitch. Or a nasty old dude. (Or both, in this case.)

The Phantom - Netflix recommended it for me. I've seen it before. Still as cheesy as ever. Not bad, necessarily, just cheesy. You have to be in a certain frame of mind to enjoy it.

And I found that list of movies I watched but forgot to actually post about. More than I thought, too, so yay.

The Happening - Marky Mark XD Always and forever. How am I ever supposed to see this man as anything else, seriously? But Zooey Deschanel is adorable, as always. I would watch that girl bake cookies or mow her lawn, seriously.

Happy Ever Afters - Kind of a cute movie, actually, about two wedding receptions being held in one venue and a bunch of stuff that happens because of it.

Pulse - The Japanese version, cause apparently we have to differentiate now?

Gigantic - This movie is super weird. Not sure why I was expecting any different with Zooey Deschanel in here, but whatevs. It might actually be a little weird even by her standards. But it didn't feel like an entire waste of time.

The Wedding Weekend - A capella what now? Seriously, wtf did I just watch? Why is the guy in the monk robe getting laid? What happened to these idiots? In what world are these jokes funny? Oh God, I'm so confused... :[

What Happens in Vegas - This is what happens when you share a hotel room with a snorer. It's... not as horrible as it could be? I laughed a few times. Not more than a few, but a few. Better than a poke in the eye.

The Bounty Hunter - All right, so the movie pretty much sucks, but I do think the chemistry between Butler and Aniston is pretty cute. Probably wouldn't have kept on watching it if I hadn't had a voice in the back of my mind telling me I need to rack up more movies.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - It was on in the background and I'm way behind in this movie thing. I'm going to have to start watching a lot of them while I multitask other things.

The whole list is here.
herophelia: (ravenclaws don't speak moron)
Rango - Weirdness with lizards. Also, there's some weird furry animal thing that totally looks like an ewok in there. I'm still not entirely sure what it was about. I got up to pee twice and ended up entirely lost.

Sliding Doors - I remember seeing this movie forever ago and really liking it. I still liked it. John Hannah is one of my favourite actors. He's adorable.

The Accidental Husband - Funnier than I expected, but also worse overall than I expected. But I got about half an hour into it and figured I may as well finish.

I Love You Phillip Morris - Also not what I was expecting. Creepy in a lot of ways, but I actually liked it quite a bit.

The Ramen Girl - Culturally really insulting, but enough of a feel-good movie that I don't really care all that much.

Serenity - I stopped before the sad bit. If you've seen it you know what I mean. Still counting it, though. Just didn't want to see that all over again. it sucked enough the first dozen times.

OH! And I've completely been forgetting. Mara and I saw The Hunger Games a while ago. I already spewed my feelings about it. Worse than the books, better than I was expecting. Not that many complaints about casting.

The whole list is here.
herophelia: (Default)
Pineapple Express - I've seen this one before. It's always funny. It's funnier with brownies. Not much to say aide from that.

Walk the Line - Holy crap. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon... they can sing, and this movie was actually really sweet at the end. I've always been a big Johnny Cash fan, so it wasn't hard to get me invested.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story - This one showed up alter the same night as Walk the Line, so I watched it. It's... we''l it's a parody. So, knowing that, not too terrible.

Step Brothers - Yeah... I don't know why I watched this one again, either.

Also, I know there's a list on one of my computers on here with some other movies I've seen. I just can't find the damn thing.

The whole list is here.
herophelia: (leave the gas on? no. i'm a f-ing pirate)
Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Die Hard With a Vengeance, Live Free or Die Hard - That's right. I had myself a marathon. What up? Man, I love these movies. Though I like the first the best and the last the least, I still enjoy them all. And I like that Zeus is the racist. Which I will probably get shit for, but whatever. I like that there's a fairly mainstream movie that can show that minorities can be racist against a majority, but doesn't make the movie about that. It's there, but they're not shoving it down your throat. It's just a facet of the guy in this action movie, with the crime spree being the focus.

The whole list is here.
herophelia: (elephant on trampoline)
Young Frankenstein - Anyone who doesn't know why this movie is awesome hasn't seen it. And should remedy that rtfn. Seriously. Go.

Next - Didn't really expect to like this one. Thought it would be cheesy (not that that's always a bad thing) but I ended up pleasantly surprised. is it the best movie I've ever seen? No. But I'm glad I took the time to watch it.

Beauty and the Beast - Oh God, how does Disney continue to make such adorable movies? Granted, they've fallen flat on their face a couple of times. But this one? Not one of those times. I love this movie. So much. I even love the villains. Belle was always one of my favourite 'princesses' because she just... didn't care what other people thought about her. At all. It made me feel like it was all right to like books more than barbies, and to wear polka dots with stripes and mismatched shoes. (I was very young at the time.) She was one of my very early role models.

Also, in a weird way Gaston helped me. It kind of affirmed for me that someone could be popular and well liked, and also total slime. It hadn't really occurred to me before that. (Again, very young.) Before that I had assumed that there must be something wrong with me for disliking some of the more popular girls I knew, because if so many people liked them, obviously they must be good. Which, it is super obvious, is not at all the case. But still, everyone had to learn that for the first time at some point in their history. For me, it was B&B.

The Mummy Returns - I was sharing a hotel room with my mother. She snores and I couldn't sleep. So I was up most nights watching television. Mostly Law and Order, which doesn't help me for this at all, but this also made it into the rotation. I missed the first ten minutes or so, but I'm still counting it. I've seen it before, anyway.

Monsters vs. Aliens - So this thing... didn't totally suck. Reese Witherspoon is adorable. Dumb as a sack of hammers, but sweet and cute as a button. Premise is dumb, but what can you really expect? The animation is good, some of the jokes are funny. It's better than a poke in the eye!

The whole list is here.
herophelia: (Default)
Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol thingie - This movie. I should have been drunk. Seriously. I probably would have loved this thing if I'd gone to see t drunk. because there was plenty of physical comedy that was funny, and tone of one-liners or two line dialogue exchanges that were funny. It's just the movie as a whole that blew chunks. Also, Tom Cruise is fucking creepy. That is all.

Shaun of the Dead - Had to watch something good to make up for it. XD I love this movie, I will probably always love this movie. It's not groundbreaking cinema or anything, but it's always entertaining. Also, it's peppered with Spaced jokes, and they always make me giggle. And then they make me want to watch Spaced again.

The whole list is here.
herophelia: (lucky snowcone)
Sleepy Hollow - The Johnny Depp one. It's actually fairly cute. You know, for a movie about a psycho ghost who lops off heads. Christina Ricci is adorable. Johnny Depp is Johnny Depp. It's got a ton of great one-liners, cool props, and fantastic costumes. I love clothes. I am shallow that way. Besides, you can't go wrong with Tim Burton. Or rather, you can very rarely go wrong with Tim Burton.

Iron Man - I love that I watch this movie and what I take away from it is pole dancing flight attendants, Pepper in a backless gown, and a derpy robotic arm. That's it. I've stopped watching it to try and see any sort of value in the story, I just watch to giggle and see hot chicks.

Bedazzled - I haven't seen this movie in such a long time. I used to have one hell of a crush on Brendan Fraser in high school. George of the Jungle. Mmmmm. I should watch that again. This movie is actually fairly stupid, but again, it makes me laugh. Not with utter hilarity. It's really more of a 'man, that's sad' kind of laugh. The kind where you wonder why on Earth you're laughing.

Stealing Harvard - This movie. God. If I wasn't trying to do this 365 movies in one year thing, I wouldn't have finished watching it. But I'd already sunk 20 minutes into it, and then 40 minutes, and by that point I figured I'd just power through. Now I kind of wish I'd cleaned my tub instead.

BECOMING JANE
I'm going to share an unpopular opinion. Ready? I don't think James McAvoy is a handsome man. I think he's an amazingly gifted actor, I think he has an intense sort of magnetism that makes him appealing, but I don't think he's good looking. In fact, his eyes only thing about him (physically) that I like. He has incredibly gorgeous eyes. But he's short, pasty, kind of twiggy, he has fairly lank hair and a huge nose and a thin, narrow little mouth and bad teeth.

That being said, I don't actually care. I think that looks are the last thing you should take into consideration when evaluating a person. He's still one of my favourite actors. He became someone I actively looked for after I saw 'Inside I'm Dancing' and after 'Atonement' he is someone who can make me see a movie. If James McAvoy is in it, I will watch it. Even ridiculous movies. Just to see what he does with his role.

Becoming Jane was a nice surprise for me. I didn't expect to like it all that much, but I figured I'd like him in it. Anne Hathaway, though... what a surprise. She's amazing. He's amazing. They're amazing together. I love this movie. It broke my heart a little, though. I actually spent a decent amount of time rewriting the ending XD I wanted it to go their way that badly. The minor characters really make this movie for me. The leads are great, they really are, but all the smaller parts are done so well that it makes the world seem real.

KUNG FU PANDA
I fucking love this movie. Don't even judge me. I don't want to hear it. It's cute and the story is good, the voices are fantastic. Even the animation is something that turned out way better than I was expecting.

MEGA SHARK vs. GIANT OCTOPUS
Oh God, this movie. It's crack. It's movie crack. There's really no other way to describe it. It is horrible and addicting. Emphasis on the horrible.

So, I'm going to try out that movies 365 in a year thing. I am way behind. Luckily for me, I've never really been much of a sleeper.

My list so far is here. I'm probably forgetting some movies, and if I get reminded of ones I watched in early January at a later date, I'm going to add them. At the moment, these are the movies I'm positive I've watched since 1 January 2012:

The Help - great movie, awesome book. i don't really understand the haters for this movie. it's accurate for the time, and i think the underlying message is phenomenal.

Morning Glory - oh god i love this movie. it's hilarious. i could watch it four or five times in a row and not stop laughing.

The Ugly Truth - i found it on my computer with a weird file name, opened it up to see what it was, and just kept on watching. it's cute. not groubdbreaking cinema or anything, but cute.

27 Dresses - heigel is adorable. end.

Beauty & the Briefcase - i was actually looking for the disney beauty and the beast movie, this came up on the netflix instant list, and i was curious. i kind of wish i could get this hour and a half of my life back...

This is a meme about the Christmas party that took place at [community profile] betenoire_logs.

The drinks were flowing freely, the band played into the wee hours of the night, and everyone left with a gift and a feeling of joy in their hearts. (Right?)

The question is, what happened once you left that ballroom? Did you go straight home? Were you alone? Did you just decide not to leave? Is anybody passed out on a buffet table?

I don't know, but you do, so tell us all about it!

OOC: This meme does not count for game canon. Though it can, if you want it to, and you agree with everyone else involved. Your character does not have to have attended the party to participate in this meme. Your character doesn't even have to be in the game.

This is an opportunity for those of us who are unsure to take Dreamwidth for a test drive. So everybody just have fun!

just a heads up, older things in the journal are friends locked now.

it shouldn't make any difference for most of the people who read this.

it's a grey, grey, grey day. it's not supposed to rain until tomorrow, but it looks like rain today. then again, i'm better at guessing the weather in california, and not so good at it in new york any more.

just had breakfast/brunch/whatever. i was going to walk around today and maybe go to a museum, but perhaps i'll just stay in until dinner tonight. i've still got a couple of weeks to do museums and the like, and i've got a bit of a headache.
